first real snow pleasure

Yesterday was my 18th ski/snbrd day of this season, which was supernice. At last we did not only had the opportunity to go to the glacier, because we got enough snow the last days.
Skiing this deep pow pow was so much fun... Just watch this short clip and you will know, what I'm talking about :-)

first snow

On October the 12th the weather forecast said that a cold front with snow should come tomorrow and it should stay for the next days. I didn't really believed in this forecast, because most times its not right. But when I woke up the next morning, it didn't look like autumn anymore... it looked like winter. The next moment I got a call from my buddy Joi that we should go up to our homeresort, after a short check on the web measurement station we decided to do it. But I had to go to University first, which was super juicy :-)

But then we started our hike, first we had to carry our skis on our backpacks but not that far. Then we hiked on with the skins. And meter after meter the landscape got more beautiful, the trees were covered with snow, no noise, like in the deepest winter.

But when we looked down to the valley, we saw the green fields and reallized what we were doing, awesome! All these amazing impressions while tracking up let us feel so happy, that we nearly forgot the effort.

A few 100 meters under the top we got into a tight fog field and only a few minutes later it started to dump again. So we reached the top after 1100m altitude of hiking, and it was unbelievable, we were standing in 75cm of freshest -8°C cold fluffy deluxe powder, yeah!!!

We tried to make some cool fotos or filming, but it was dumping to hard, so we could hardly see anything... So we decided to switch of the cam and just skied down near the trees enjoying the endless deep ride, what a season opening!!!

... to be continued ...

Cima Tosa - Canalone Neri (Icecouloir)

The Cima Tosa is the highest peak with 3173m in the Brenta group (Italy). Alex and me went there on friday, march 22nd to climb up and ride down the longest Icecouloir of the east Alps - The Canalone Neri (50°) with a vertical drop of 850m.

really really heavy bastards

we had to carry our whole stuff four hours to the winter room

midnight cooking in the winter room

we went on at half past four

sunrise at the Cima Tosa

Alex is entering the couloir

I'm just before the Icewall

nearly the whole way down is a no fall zone, because the icewall is waiting for you at the end

the couloir was too icy, so we had to decide us against the descent ...

... read between the lines ...

the drop in with a really beautiful background

last view down :-( but only a view

so we had to rope down the normal way

one of our rare turns

a short break near the winter room, before we had to carry our stuff back
And there we got an aprovement, that we made the right decision, because we saw an avalange coming down the Canalone Neri!!! And some big rocks came down the wall you see behind Alex.

pretty exhausted on the way back

Last view back, after 16h of hicking...
